Question to Ask a Web Designer

With all the people who design and build websites in Alameda, it can be difficult to know what questions to ask, especially if you don’t know much about web design. Here are some questions you can ask a person or company you are considering hiring for your website project:

You should start by checking out their portfolio, and read any online reviews. Do you like their website design style? Are there any bad reviews that should make you leery of doing business with them? A little bit of research can go a long way.

Next, ask them what browsers your site will work on. If they don’t say “All browsers and all devices,” you have a problem. Follow up by asking how they test and make sure your site works on all devices, and is optimized for phones. If they can answer sufficiently and put you at ease, it is a good sign.

If you are working on  time frame, ask the designer how long until your site will launch? Make sure to lock them into some sort of time frame so that you know when you can expect to have a site, and that they are committed to getting it done.

Make sure to ask your local Alameda web design expert if they provide any extras with their web design service, you might be able to get some extra design or marketing work.

Finally, make sure to ask them what happens after your site launches. After all, designing the site is only part of the issue, you really need to focus on making it work for you, marketing-wise.

Responsive Website Design Package

Responsive design is a hot topic in the web design community, and one we have been focused on for the last year or so.

If you are revamping your website in 2014, making sure your new site design is responsive is the ONLY way to go. So what is responsive design, and what are some advantages?

Responsive websites are device agnostic, and are built to look and work equally great on laptops, desktops, phones and tablets.

Instead of running a simplified and separate site for mobile users, responsive websites eliminate this need, and makes your entire site accessible to visitors, tailoring their experience to their device.

Typically, responsive sites organize the most important information above the fold of the homepage, so that mobile users can easily access the information they seek. For example, the phone number (with click-to-call functionality) and address (with click-for-directions functionality) might be listed near the top.

Another featured that responsive sites take advantage of is menu organization. Phone screens, especially when viewed vertically, are narrow, much narrower than a laptop or desktop screen. Rather than organizing your menu to run the full width of the page, which makes sense for laptop and desktop users, a responsive site will neatly organize your menu into a single drop down, making it much easier to dig into the inner content of your site, and find the exact information they are seeking.

If you are building a new website from scratch, using a responsive theme is the best way to go. A lot has changed in the last year especially, so if it has been a few years since you revamped your website, it may be time to take the plunge with a new responsive design.

If your site is already built in WordPress, redesigning using a responsive theme can be relatively quick and painless.
